hey there if you have a better fish
which has
a swollen stomach or it looks like the
betta fish is bloated
then in this video we'll run you through
all the possible
situations where your betta fish may be
bloated and we also talk to you about
like
what do you do in each and every one of
this situation
in particular number one we'll talk to
you about whether your beta fish could
just be egg bound which means it has
eggs in the egg sac
or number two whether the betta fish is
having a disease
or a symptoms called drop c
and number three we will talk to you
about whether the peta fish could just
be over
fed and it is actually constipated so
without further ado let's get started
now the first possible situation that
may occur
is that the beta fish is actually egg
bound
okay now we know it is common sense but
we just thought it is worth noting that
only female get better fish can get egg
bombs so do take a note
whether the better fish with a swollen
stomach
is actually a male or female better fish
if it is female
some of the times when it would be egg
bound is it had recently just been
exposed to a mere better fish whether
through
uh another meal better fish in the same
tank or whether through another meal
better fish that it has
separated in between but basically these
are all the
examples of situations that may cause
your female beta fish to be egg bound
however it is also very possible for the
female beta fish to be egg bound without
any male beta fish at
all which in those situations what will
happen is they will get
egg bound and then what will happen is
whether they just lay their eggs out or
they could actually just have the eggs
to be re-absorbed back
into their body if you know they do not
spawn at all so in this case it is
going to be very normal and you don't
have to worry that much
how do you actually tell the difference
in terms of physical appearance though
um sadly i don't think there's a very
clear answer to that yet
now you can see a picture here this is
an example of a pregnant female better
fish
some of the owners have said that you
could actually see a bit of the egg
texture
underneath the skin but we argue that
sometimes the better fish
you know the skin color if it's darker
it is just really hard to identify
so for us another way to tell is you
could actually
see whether the betta fish is still
healthy or not
because if the peta fish is just you
know egg bound
they would still have the healthy traits
of the female better fish that they will
still be responsive they will still be
active they will still eat a lot
in those case most likely your better
fish would just be eggplant
now number two a very clear way to tell
that your betta fish is sick and still
egg bound is if you actually look your
betta fish from the top
you will see that the scales actually
start to pop up like a pine cone fashion
it's almost like kind of like a
christmas tree i would say that and that
is actually a symptom of drop c
dropsy is basically just means that
there is internal organ failure to a
point where the organ couldn't process
some of this fluid and the fluid just
goes into the different part of the fish
body
some of the causes of the dropsy would
be every single thing
that's about making sure your beta fish
is healthy
it can be about the betta fish water
parameter which includes the ph value
the water temperature as well as whether
there's a high concentration of ammonia
nitrate or nitrite content
which in this case you can actually
check out the top right corner of this
video we'll put to you about
a basic care better fish guide and then
the other piece to take care of is also
to check in whether you are feeding your
betta fish you know
consistently with the adequate healthy
food
and whether your betta fish is
constantly stressed out by an external
threat
stress will also lower your beta fish
immune system which cause it most
more likely to develop all these type of
diseases and which leads to dropsy
there's a
lot of different answers available on
internet some people
say that it is not possible to be
treated but through the forums through
you know seeing some of this facial
owners we realize that
there is generally quite a decent level
of success rate we are not claiming that
it is going to be 100 success rate
but there are some success rate with
utilizing two of these treatment which
include using epsom salt by soaking your
fish
into a water basin or water with epsom
salt
and generally the ratio for this is
actually like four to five
teaspoon to one gallon of water
and then you let your fish stays there
for five minutes and then
afterward what you do is you remove your
beta fish
and then you put it into another
container that has the methylene blue
solution which is basically mixing
methylene blue with the water
for this one generally we just put you
know a few squirt of the metallic blue
maybe two to three square of the
methylene blue
and you know you just soak your fish
there for another two minutes
and what we also do when the fish have
dropsy is that we would actually want to
quarantine this fish
and when we quarantine it in the
quarantine space too we'll do our best
to provide the basic things that the
fish require of course
good water parameter good temperature
well maybe a bit of life plan to
simulate it but the reason we quarantine
is because sometimes this fish will
contain bacteria or viruses
and we would not want this to spread to
all our other fish species
so if your betta fish is not already
quarantined if it's in a community tank
then it's a good idea to give it a space
for it to recover after you have soaked
your beta fish in these two solutions
and most of all the remaining thing that
you can do for this is you just make
sure your beta fish is well fat
comfortable and that's the most that we
can do because this is really a
challenging condition for the betta fish
now after you identify that it's not
dropsy if you think it's still not egg
bound
then the last most likely most possible
reason would just be you probably have
fed your better fish now know that
better fish because of
their species how their physiology are
evolutionary they are driven by this
natural instinct to feed and eat
as much as possible so what you want to
do
is to actually feed them according to
the instructions on your you know like
food labor
like us we have an example of this food
palette here
and there's this instruction for this
particular palette what you do
want to do is it says three to five
palette two to three times a day
and that's what we'll do it and
sometimes we'll mix it up with like a
live food
you know like maybe a blood worm once in
a while just to have a variation in the
nutrition
but and because one of the mistake that
beginners tend to
make is that just keep feeding it
because they see the better fish eating
it it must mean they are hungry
big no no we wouldn't recommend to do
that make sure to not over feed your
betta fish
so if that's the case if you feel it
could be due to constipation
all you gotta do is you could actually
fast your better fish for one day
or another way is that you could take a
pee this you know green pea you peel
away the skin
and then you take up a small small
amount of it like the pellet size that
you usually feed your betta fish and
then you mash them up a bit
you soak it a bit and then you put it
into the tank so that the better fish
actually get more
fiber in its body and then it will
really release away the waste this has
shown to actually be working for some
people
so that's all that's all the situations
that may be possible for your betta fish
if it's bloated
