hey everybody it's doctor Sam Robbins
today's q a is why is my belly so fat
all right um genetic Society again I
always keep telling people it's hormones
all right this is why guys put more
belly fat than women uh women tend to
more fat on the lower body one is
estrogen right for women and then
testosterone tends to put more fat
around the belly some people have more
of that bubble pregnant fat that has to
do with intramuscular fat rather than
subcutaneous subcutaneous is underneath
that skin the love handles but some
people just that big bloated belly fat
which is like hard but it's not jiggly
and that is to do with intramuscular fat
around the organs that's not as healthy
and so forth and that has to do a lot of
times with stress and and insulin levels
all right so again it keeps coming down
to hormones so why is my belly fat um
again obviously maybe that's where you
put your fat but there's been times
where my sugar levels were too high
my sleep was junk so my stress levels
were higher my cortisol levels were
higher I was working out like too much
so then I would compensate by trying to
eat more you know carbohydrates and
doing all that kind of stuff and then
all of a sudden I noticed my my I
started getting my glove handles and
belly fat and I don't usually you know I
mean I could but I don't get belly fat
because I try not to get it so it always
came down to stress levels then you know
what I magically would take off three
four days from the gym and all of a
sudden my belly fat would decrease why
because at cortisol levels okay so again
it keeps coming down to hormones
um what causes increased cortisol poor
sleep is the number one thing anything
that's going to cause you stress
physical stress emotional stress I'm not
saying to do away with stress but
anything that tends to cause you stress
is going to increase cortisol what
happens to cortisol is cortisol levels
go up blood sugar tends to go up with it
you become more insulin insensitive so
the carbohydrates you eat don't get
digested as well further blood sugar
rise as cortisol levels go up you tend
to have lower testosterone levels and
other hormonal negative changes
including lower thyroid levels again you
can see that stress is problematic and
also as stress levels go up adrenaline
production go up and many times that
causes negative sleep like you can't
sleep even though you're tired or you
get up in the middle of the night you
can't go back to sleep it's adrenaline
so you want to lower stress all right
you want to lower belly fat lower stress
it's one of the greatest things you can
do all right also the other thing when
when stress levels go up some people are
quote unquote stress eaters
for me I'm not a stress eater even
though I'll start to get belly fat but I
know a lot of people have become stress
eaters as cortisol levels go up blood
sugar and all that and they become
eating more and they're famished all the
time they're hungry whether their
stomach is hungry or they're emotionally
mentally hungry so that's another thing
problematic with stress and I've got
lots of different ways that you can
reduce stress my main focus today was
belly fat and that you need to lower
your stress levels and so forth so
underneath this video I've got lots of
topics about how you can reduce stress
lifestyle changes of course again I
understand you can't change everything
when it comes to stress all right it's
how you manage it it's your perception
of stress and there are things you can
do for sure you can take certain
vitamins and minerals and herbs that
will reduce your stress and cost you no
time no lifestyle changes and sleep is
the greatest thing you can do to improve
stress I don't sleep well and partly
it's just genetics and the other part is
my fault I'm working late at night I'm
making you know things for you guys I
want to help people I'm replying back to
emails and questions and then all of a
sudden I wake up and I'm like darn it
man I'm like wide awake now and then my
stress levels are up now I got to take
this and that to lower my stress levels
and improve melatonin blah blah blah so
lower your stress if you want to
decrease belly fat
um and if your guy you want to improve
your testosterone levels okay if you
want to decrease belly fat
um having low testosterone definitely
causes belly fat for guys again improve
your hormones improve cortisol improve
stress and improve blood sugar levels
but definitely stress is a big factor
and remember stress hormones go up
especially for guys and women
testosterone comes down yes women
produce a lot of testosterone it's just
ratio wise is different than men all
right so you want to improve your
testosterone levels lower your cortisol
levels and vice versa so there you have
